Its analysis of trends and emerging challenges informs national and international drug and crime priorities and policies, and provides a solid foundation of evidence for counternarcotics interventions. Drug markets and drug use patterns change rapidly, so measures to stop them must also be quick to adapt. Thus the more comprehensive the drug data we collect and the stronger our capacity to analyse the problem, the better prepared the international community will be to respond to new challenges.

RECORD NUMBER FAVORS REMOVING U.S. TROOPS FROM AFGHANISTAN

As President Obama prepares to announce his policy for drawing down U.S. forces in Afghanistan, the percentage of Americans who favor removing the troops as soon as possible has reached an all-time high in Pew Research Center surveys.
For the first time, a majority (56%) says that U.S. troops should be brought home as soon as possible, while 39% favor keeping troops in Afghanistan until the situation has stabilized.

U.S. HISPANIC COUNTRY-OF-ORIGIN COUNTS FOR NATION, TOP 30 METROPOLITAN AREA

This report examines the Hispanic population of the United States by its 10 largest country-oforigin sub-groups, both at the national level and in the 30 metropolitan areas with the largest Hispanic populations. The data for this report are derived from the 2010 U.S. Census and from the 2009 American. Community Survey. The 2010 Census provides population counts for Hispanic origin subgroups. The 2009 American Community Survey provides detailed geographic, demographic and economic characteristics for each group.
